Editing a live survey

As soon as your survey is live, you will still be able to edit the survey.

Please find an overview of what’s possible per survey element:

Tip! No responses registered yet? Then you can simply close your survey. Its status will automatically change back to in development and all edit options will be available again.
  • Add new survey questions
    Click the Question button in the spot where you want to add this new question.
  • Move questions around
    Click the arrow next to the question and select Move. Then select whether you want to move it one place up or down, all the way to the top or bottom, or to a specific place in the survey.
  • Copy questions
    Click the arrow next to the question and select Copy. Then choose before which question you want to put the copy.
  • Delete questions
    Deleting questions in a live survey is not possible. When deleting a question all responses to this question are also deleted. If the question no longer applies the question can be hidden. Make sure when the question is hidden to make the question not required.

Attention! Deleting questions will also delete the responses to these questions! If you’re not sure whether you’ll still require the answers provided, hide the questions instead.

  • Mark questions as Required or Not required
    click the arrow next to the question and select Required or Not required.
  • Hide questions or show them
    click the arrow next to the question and select Hide or Unhide.
  • Change the question type
    Click the arrow next to the question and click on Edit. Then select the question type in the blue bar on top. Only the question types that the question can be changed to without losing responses will be listed.
  • Add new answer choices
    Go to the question editor, and click on the “plus” button to add a new answer choice. or click on Add answer choices in bulk to add multiple answer choices at the same time. Additionally you can tick the “Other, please specify” and “None of the above” answer options if you wish to add these.
  • Hide or show existing answer choices:
    Go to the question editor and click on the “eye” button to make answer choices (in)visible.
    Note: this option is preferred to deleting them. The choices won’t be visible anymore to your respondents, but you’ll still have all of the responses in the reports.
  • Move answer choices to a different position
    Go to the question editor. Click and hold the double arrow icon, then drag the answer choice to the new position.
  • Delete answer choices
    Go to the question editor and click the X next to the answer choice you wish to remove.
  • Add / Edit images as answer choice
    Go to the question editor and click in the text box of an answer choice. Then click on the media library icon in the task bar that appears to add an image.

Attention! deleting answer choices will remove all responses where this choice was selected, so be careful! If you’re unsure whether you still require the responses, hide the answer choice instead.

  • Add new pages
    Click on Page break between to existing questions to put these questions on separate pages. Or select Yes for the Setting Start on new page when creating a new question.
  • Move pages around
    Click on Actions in the top right corner of a page and click on Up or Down to move it one place up or down.
  • Copy entire pages
    Click on Actions in the top right corner of a page and click on Copy, then select where you wish to put the copied page.
  • Delete pages
    Click on Actions in the top right corner of a page and click on Delete.

Attention! Deleting pages will also delete the responses to the all of the questions that were on that page. Instead of deleting questions, simply delete the page break and then hide all of the questions. Or use branching to make respondents skip that particular page.

  • Add new logic

Please note that for all textual changes, inline editing is also possible in a live survey. In many cases it can be faster than editing the entire question.

Attention! Always double-check your existing branching and page display logic after making changes to a live survey.
