Survey creation

Survey question types

Radio buttons (single select)

Respondents can choose only one answer from the listed options.

Checkboxes (multi-select)

Allow respondents to select more than one answer from a list of options.

Drop down list (single select)

Repondents can choose one answer from a drop down list of options. Use this question type instead of radio buttons if you want to present a long list of options.

Listbox (multi-select)

Respondents can choose one or more answers from a listbox of options. Choose this question type instead of checkboxes if you want to present a long list of options.

Rating scale

This question type asks respondents to rate something on a scale. Labels can be pure numeric or combined with text (e.g. poor/excellent, most improved/least improved) and can go from best to worst rate or inverse.

Slider

This question type asks respondents to rate something on a scale by moving a slider. It also works great on mobile devices.

Net Promoter Score

Add this special question type to measure client satisfaction with one single question:
“How likely are you to recommend COMPANY X to a colleague or friend?”
Your Net Promoter Score and results breakdown are calculated and shown in real-time.

Rank order scale

You can measure the relative preference or importance of multiple items within a list. Respondents are asked to assign numeric rankings to the response choices.

Textbox

Present respondents with a single line text field in which they can type up to 255 characters.

List of textboxes

Respondents can type short answers to a series of related questions.

Multiline textbox

Respondents can type a more thought-out, longer response.

Constant sum

Allow respondents to enter values for each choice that must add up to a value that you specify. Constant Sum responses are typically used to determine the percentage of total resources (time, amounts, etc.) devoted to categories which fall within the same topic (modes of transportation, departmental budgets, complement, etc).

Matrix (single select)

Respondents are asked to rate different listed items in a single question and are allowed only one answer per item. Get answers evaluated across a range or scale, using comparison-type words such as “Most likely/least likely” or “Completely agree/completely disagree”.

Matrix (multi-select)

Respondents are asked to rate different listed items in a single question and are allowed to check all anwers that apply.

Matrix (textbox)

Allow your respondents to enter text or values into multiple textboxes per sub-question like in a spreadsheet.

Matrix (endpoint labels)

Have respondents rate one subject based on two opposing criteria. Radio buttons are aligned horizontally with a label at each end. Usually the labels are opposites such as ‘modern’ versus ‘old fashioned’ or ‘easy to use’ versus ‘hard to use’, etc.

Text/instructions

Insert messages or instructions in your survey. For example, you may name this heading as a way to introduce the next section of your survey (“Personal Information” or “Second Part”).

Date picker

Provide a calendar-like interface to allow respondents to pick the date instead of having them type the date in manually.

MaxDiff (best/worst)

Ask respondents to identify the most important attribute and least important attribute for a set of attributes.

Upload file

Allow respondents to upload files or images.

Common options

Multimedia response options

Use images as response options or a combination of images and text.

Response validation

To increase the quality of your survey results, you can add validations to open answers, such as email address, integer, decimal number and string length.

Question required / not required

Make a question required so respondents must answer the question before they can continue to the next page.

None of the above-option

Offer respondents the possibility to not choose any of the presented response options, by adding a ‘None of the above’-option. This option is shown apart from the other answer options in the survey itself and once selected, any other selected response options are automatically unselected.

Other, please specify-option

Provide an extra response option so respondents can add/choose an answer, other than the presented options. A textbox appears when respondents check this response option.

Autocomplete answers

Proposes response options as respondents start typing their answer.

Order of responses

Automatically sort the answer options in a default, alphabetical or random order.

Translation file

Translate your surveys with the CheckMarket translation file. Just export the file, translate, then import the file back in the survey tool and you’re done. Everything, including all page display logic, branching, page breaks and additional question options is fully functional.

Survey templates

Pre-built questionnaires

Our team of research experts put all of our best practices and expertise in the questionnaires of our templates. We have an extensive library going from customer and employee satisfaction surveys to a website feedback survey, a Net Promoter Score survey, etc. All of them are available in English, Dutch and French.

Design themes

Apply one of the default CheckMarket themes to your survey or save your own design theme as a template for your future surveys.

Distribution

Email

Personalized email invitations

You import contacts and create an email invitation. CheckMarket will take care of sending each contact a personalized email that includes a unique link to the survey, which enables the tool to track who has responded, register bounces and opted-outs and send automatic reminders.

Automatic reminders

Control if and when the CheckMarket email engine automatically sends reminders to contacts who haven’t started your survey or who only partially completed your survey.

Panel management

Allows you to manage your own contacts from within your CheckMarket account. Create panels by importing your contacts. Organize them into folders and panels and use advanced sampling techniques to add them to your surveys.

Import contacts

Import an unlimited number of email addresses and validate them instantly upon import. Email addresses that are invalid, and email addresses that appear more than once are removed automatically.

Contact fields

Each contact has the following fields: Email address, last name, first name, language, sex, birth date(year), street, house number, apt/suite, city, postal code, province, country, phone number and 10 optional fields. You can use these optional fields to hold important data that you can filter on when forming survey panels or when downloading/analyzing the results.

Automatic bounce & opt-out reporting

Manage your bounces and fix the email addresses or download them to update your own records. A bounce, or bounce-back, is an email that is returned to the sender because it cannot be delivered to the addressee.

Survey panel

Allows you to add or remove contacts, review individual responses, check for bounced email addresses, review survey histories of the contacts, etc…

Advanced Sampling

Sample based on socio-demographic characteristics when adding your contacts to a survey.

Contact history

View the survey participation history of each contact. In a single glance you see when and in which surveys a person has already participated. By clicking on the report link you can review and compare the contact’s responses from multiple surveys.

Web

URL

Each survey has a unique URL which you can spread on your website, newsletter, social media, internet, etc.

Personalized URL

You can generate a simple short URL with your own keywords in it, e.g. ‘s.chkmkt.com/mygreatsurvey’.

Custom URL

Use a custom domain to make your survey URL short and memorable. Link through your site, such as www.your-company.com/survey or let us assist you in registering a special domain name such as www.oursurvey.com.

Pop-up / Pop-under

Invite your website visitor to your survey through a pop-up or pop-under. Our pop-ups and pop-unders will appear once per visit until your visitor has clicked on “Yes, I will!” or “No thanks”.

Embedded (iFrame)

Embed your survey on any page of your website or intranet. An iFrame isn’t just a link to your survey. The actual survey questions are displayed on your web page. All of your website’s navigation remains visible for the user. It is as easy as embedding a YouTube video.

Login page

Add a password to your survey. It comes in handy when you invite contacts via your own email tool or via paper invitations, yet you want to be able to match the responses to the respondents.

Social media

Social media surveys

Post your survey link directly to social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.), without leaving the tool.

URL Shortener

Generate a short URL using our tool. Paste this short URL in the social media of your choice and add a compelling message that will engage visitors to click on your link.

QR code

QR code

Pass out flyers, hang posters or create ads with a QR code which leads to your survey. You can find the QR code for every survey on the distribute page and you can even specify the size.

Letter & paper surveys

Paper surveys

Ask your contacts for feedback with paper surveys. We can create your survey, print the forms, distribute them and process the answers.

Combined online and offline results

View both the results of online and written surveys online or download them, and make use of ‘one-click filtering’ and more advanced filter options.

Machine readable form

Our designers can create a ‘machine readable’ form of your survey which is completely in line with the corporate image of your company’s website.

Online creation

Create your written questionnaire online in the CheckMarket system. All collected results can then be added to our extensive reporting possibilities and allow your respondents to fill out the questionnaire online as well.

Scanning

Process your received questionnaires mechanically with our scanning service. For large projects this saves time and money compared to manual processing.

Open responses

Processing hand written responses is one of the more challenging aspects of paper surveys. Our Scribe tool makes it fast, easy and efficient to transcribe handwritten responses and to add these open answers to the already scanned closed answers.

Flyer

Flyer surveys

Hand out flyers with a short easy to read URL and a QR code. Offering an incentive does wonders for the response rate.

Kiosk

Kiosk

Place a kiosk (with touch screen or keyboard) at a trade show, an open house, in a museum, etc. You can set after how many seconds the screen automatically jumps back to the start page.

Page time-out

Change the number of seconds after which a survey page should jump back to the start page. Make sure your respondents have enough time to fill out the questions on each page, but don’t make others wait too long either in case the visitors before them do not fill out the survey entirely.

Thank-you page timeout

Alter the number of seconds the thank-you page remains visible when the survey has been filled out completely. This should be long enough so that respondents can read the thank-you message, but not too long so that the next respondent does not have to wait before being able to start the survey.

SMS

Personalized text-message invitation

Upload your list of mobile telephone numbers and personalize your message using variables such as name. Our system sends each panellist an SMS text message containing a unique short URL to the survey.

Telephone

Telephone surveys

Invite people to participate in your survey, by calling them. Call center operators pose your questions over the telephone while typing in the answers online. Include the entire telephone script into your online survey, amply using our text/instructions question type, so that the required follow-up for all scenarios is clear for all telephone operators. Use our API to link your survey to the call center software.

Contact and panel management

Contact management

Allows you to manage your own contacts from within your CheckMarket account. Create panels by importing your contacts. Organize them into folders and panels and use advanced sampling techniques to add them to your surveys. Bounces and opt-outs are handled automatically. You can even track contacts across multiple surveys.

Import contacts

Import an unlimited number of email addresses and validate them instantly upon import. Email addresses that are invalid, and email addresses that appear more than once are removed automatically.

Survey panel

If you choose for email distribution, you can add or remove contacts, review individual responses, check for bounced email addresses, review survey histories of the contacts, etc…

Contact history

View the survey participation history of each contact. In a single glance you see when and in which surveys a person has already participated. By clicking on the report link you can review and compare the contact’s responses from multiple surveys.

Advanced Sampling

Sample your contacts based on socio-demographic characteristics when you add your contacts to your survey. For instance, you may wish to add 500 men and 500 women. You can even go further and add age-group or other characteristics from your own data such as client-segment.

Anonymous surveys & privacy

Anonymous surveys

You may wish that the survey is anonymous, but still sent out using a panel. In that case, CheckMarket can anonymize your survey for you. You will still be able to see who has already replied, but not what these respondents have answered. Global results are, of course, always available.

White label surveys

Use CheckMarket as a white label. Respondents will not see the surveys were made with the CheckMarket tool.
